I really didn't understand why people were getting so upset with my comment until I read yours.

You've convinced me; so I've updated the top-level comment accordingly.

Do not be fooled when a master of his craft makes something look easy. Simply because an action was completed flawlessly and quickly, does not mean it was easy.

... I know this misquoted quote is quite off topic, but I do think it's related to your comment, and important.

I couldn't agree more. If you know full well you've got a vegetarian/vegan in a small group and you're inviting them over as guests; it's pretty rude to serve steak. But if you're serving the same group five-nights running, four of them are going to want meat options.

I was speaking more for work functions, kids birthdays etc... where you don't want to have a bowl of peanuts in the room if someone carries an EpiPen; but nor do you want to pander to everyone's "sensitivities" and lifestyle choices.

If you have all the time & money in the world and don't mind being left with the cheese-free pizza and gluten-free tofu pasta after every meal you provide; sure, yours is the politest way.

I'm in the "Ask people specifically about allergies that cause anaphylaxis, then try to provide a reasonable range of dietary options" school of thought.

Nobody said anything about getting rid of such problems, they just said they're too expensive.

Children are too expensive.

If you didn't know that 5 years ago, I'm sorry.

As parents, let's shout this from the rooftops:

#virgins of Reddit: Having children is the practically worst thing you can do for your financial future. It is hands-down the worst financial decision most people make in their life. They are also incredibly emotionally draining (sometimes).

They are frightfully expensive in terms of time, money and emotion. Many parents need serious psychological help as a direct result of trying to balance their kids needs with their own.

That said, almost all parents say it's worth it.
