It's called a hype cycle. Early adopters don't look for praise during a hype, they have already normalised (or sometimes exploited) the technology so it's no big deal. But if I meet an early adopter who won't stop saying, "I saw that first, blah, blah..." I know they just got lucky with a guess rather than properly immersing themselves in a subject.
