I wonder that about every skyscraper office building. The amount of floor space in those things is gargantuan. It blows my mind that the average city employs enough spreadsheet-jugglers to fill even one of them.

Reply to what is quantum tunneling out simply? by Piggy468
A particle's location in quantum mechanics isn't precisely defined, it's more of a bell curve. It's most likely to be in the center, but there's a non-zero probability that it could be anywhere in the universe.
This means that if you put an "impassable" barrier somewhere close enough to the center of a particle's bell curve, you end up with a significant chance that the particle could be on either side of the barrier.
This behavior is confined to the quantum scale because in order for it to happen to a macroscopic object, all of its gajillions of particles would have to tunnel at exactly the same time, making the probability functionally zero. Furthermore, any macroscopic barrier would also be far too thick to be within the distance tunneling can realistically be expected.

Reply to In the absence of cosmic radiation, would an object placed in space eventually cool to absolute zero? by IHatrMakingUsernames
If an object had zero energy, then both its position and momentum would be known, violating the uncertainty principle.
I’m hoping a real physicist can help me out with this, but it seems like it would eventually stabilize at some non-zero energy.

Why is a six-meter cube impractical? Lots of people have that much space on their property in America, and you could easily make it taller/narrower and put most of it underground.

I'll admit I've never tried to do a conference call on a flight. Do they specifically block those services? Because you should be able to do a Teams call or something on any device with an internet connection.

They can already use VoIP video call services.

Nobody talks on their phones anyway, this is 2022

Yes! I get that some of it is generational, but I’m a battery engineer and I’m living in a 1 bedroom. Who are all these people that can afford houses, condos, or even big apartments?
