Apparently the site in the fells was a different kind of anti-aircraft base, and was decommissioned when the nike missiles came out. Interesting article here: https://www.medfordhistorical.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/MHSNewsletterFall2022-LO.pdf

Reply to Balancing trespassers with being neighborly by c_l_who
What would be a preferred means of contact for permission to cross your (OP or anyone else) property? I’m always looking for new routes/connections for trail running and xc ski, and have had some luck bumping into landowners in person but never quite sure how to best reach out without being bothersome. Postcard with my phone number?

Why not just track it with GPS?

You should be fine on any trails you were looking at. The seasonal closure just refers to facilities like visitor centers, bathrooms, etc. More info here and as somebody else pointed out, be sure to wear your orange.
Would also recommend Inn at the Long Trail for an awesome post-hike meal!
