The local library can help you with this.

For fashion take a look at 1975 high school and college yearbooks.

Tasty used to be open til 2am daily but now I think it's Thurs Fri Sat. They close earlier (midnight?) on other days. It's hit or miss (both the food & the service) but usually good. I suppose late at night you might get some fries that have been sitting for awhile or something like that. It's run by a family from Afghanistan I think, the chicken kabobs are really good. Avoid the chk nuggets, those are just from the freezer. The fried chicken and the kabobs are cooked-to-order, so call ahead if you don't have 10 mins to spare.

Haven't stayed at Jeffords or any place that feels like you're staying in someone's big old house, just a personal preference for us. Also the rooms seem smallish and cramped but if you got a suite it would probably be very comfortable.

My daughter has stayed at AWOL when they first opened the "cabins" which are built around the old Captain Walker's House. She wants to go back, loved bicycling around the area but Nov might be too cold for that.

"lovely town".

Well, its very small and your life will most likely be centered just around the school and school events/activities.

The surroundings are quite rural, but there are summer job (some with lodging) opportunities available in Bar Harbor.

I hope you get a chance to drive up the coast of California between Los Angeles and San Francisco, that's where the scenery is. Stop of and see the ranches/ vineyards/valleys near Lake Cachuma north of Santa Barbara too.

Have you mostly stayed in the oceanside area? That would be like being stationed in Biddeford and thinking you've seen Maine.

Surprised that you find the people in California unhelpful, what was the situation? Did you need a jumpstart or something?

Huh? School funding increases annually. And if it's cut, you actually think THAT is the reason, because "older generations" are evil? Who the hell do you think built your schools, Santa Claus?

ps are your grandparents evil too? And all your aunts & uncles?
