Reply to Babylon (mixed feelings, help needed) by Ealiom
The movie was more than a bit of a mess (though i loved it). To me the film had a few simple messages (in addition to the history of hollywood stuff that i'll pass over for this comment)
-how people get sucked in and intoxicated by Hollywood/movie making
-how Hollywood uses, abuses, and largely destroys the people that get sucked in
-movies are freaking awesome, so is all this grossness and evil worth it in the name of the art? (i think Chazelle leaves this one as a question, but think his answer is yes)
I really enjoyed the Toby stuff, but the movie would have been much tighter without it all

i was disappointed in general, it was a good movie for sure, but it didnt live up to the hype in my opinion. There were some incredible scenes though and i get why blanchett is an Oscar favorite.

i dont watch it because i dont like star wars or sci/fi and to a lesser extent im turned off by the super-online nature of its fans

Reply to Anyone else surprised that James Cameron was able to make a successful sequel to a 13yr old in this day and age. by I-am-Super-Serial
heres the way i see it: technology will always progress, but greatness is greatness and Cameron is truly great as a spectacle filmmaker.
so i'd argue that time isn't his enemy because he continues to be the same uniquely gifted human

Reply to How many of you had never heard of The Last of Us video game series but are excited for the show? by SteveMidnight
I have never played the video game, haven’t played video games since high school (I’d barely even heard of the last of us), and honestly my natural reaction to hearing about this show was to roll my eyes because I’m not interested in nerd culture and was annoyed that super talented people’s efforts were being spent on a video game TV show.
Id say I’m much more interesting in watching it than I’m excited about it. I really like a lot of the people involved and HBO seems to be really getting behind it and they rarely seem to miss when they back something so I’m trusting them to make something I’ll like or at the very least appreciate but may not be for me.

Reply to This is why streaming Netflix, Disney Plus, and HBO Max keeps getting more expensive by Carolina_Heart
Because streamers don’t really make money historically but got by on “growth” and investor money during a low interest environment.
Now that rates are up companies have to try and make money and have in cut costs and increase rates accordingly
