Try High Mowing Seeds—they’re based in Vermont, and I’ve had good luck with their seeds. For seedlings, I like Cate Farms. Don’t let this weekend’s weather trick you though! Our last frost is usually the first week in June. Most people say Memorial Day as the first day you can reliably put things in the ground without freezing them to death.

Ha, I always pretend I’m not going to cross the street. Like aggressively look at my phone while facing away from the street. My garage is across the street from my house, but not directly—I have to walk down the road a bit. I can’t tell you how many times a car stops and insists on letting me cross in front only to be annoyed that they’re now stuck going walking speed for a few yards.

Unleashed dogs can be a problem even if they are super trained. I have a dog that needs lots of exercise, but he’s very reactive toward other dogs. I find myself stuck on what to do with him sometimes because I can’t trust that we won’t end up crossing paths with an unleashed dog on the trails near our house, and he could end up attacking the other dog when it comes up to “say hi”.

If you spend less than 48 hours in Canada, there’s a 3% tax added onto everything you purchased there above $200 total (not per item) at the border crossing. If you stay longer, it’s everything over $800. You do still have to pay Canadian taxes at the point of sale, and they’re not refundable.

You will have to have your food inspected at the border. All fruits/veg need to be inspected and can only enter if marked as a product of Canada. A lot of meats can’t enter. Exceptions are pork, chicken, and some beef if there’s proof that the country of origin in Canada. Meat regulations change frequently based on disease outbreaks, so they may be different each time. Prepackaged commercial food that’s still sealed is almost always allowed, but still needs to be inspected. Bakery goods and most cheeses are allowed.
