Reply to When music stores were way more prominent, did you ever just ask an employee for a random recommendation that ended up blowing your mind? What did they recommend? by duomtl
There was a Sam The Record Man in my Canadian city that had a fully soundproofed glasses off section of jazz and classical. They’d be playing bestselling top 40 music out front but once you passed those back room doors you were immersed in Charlie Parker or one of the Marsalis family or something from New Orleans.

Reply to Bananarama may not have been one of the most successful bands of the 1980s, but it certainly was one of the most 80s bands of the 1980s. by L0st_in_the_Stars
My sister never got her Bananarama tape from Columbia House. She held my Bryan Adams tape hostage. Years later, when I asked to borrow one of her CDs she’d take one of mine to make sure she got hers back. One of these days I’m going to surprise her with that cassette tape if I can find it.

My childhood sweetheart did that. As we grew up, she didn’t. She spent a few years extra in high school (probably because her dad was a teacher) instead of just dropping out. Eventually they just tested her and found she’d never finish as she was stuck at 12 yo.

Sorry! Need to explain. I meant the movie which is my favourite of all time. I hear Terlingua and I’m transported back to the movie and Dean Stockwell scanning a map to get to where they found his brother played by Harry Dean Stanton
