One thing I don’t understand, maybe someone with more knowledge on the subject could explain. From the article:
> they’re still hopeful that they can bring their products to the U.S. — the only consumer market in the world larger than China.
How is it that China has over four times the population but a smaller consumer market? Is this just some very specific definition or am I missing something?

Was it Star Control II? They did an open source re-release version that came out in the early aughts called The Ur-Quan Masters. If it isn’t that, I would still recommend you try it cause it’s S-tier either way.

It was great for the advent of smokeless gun powders, but definitely caused a lot of headaches for film archivists over the years. I worked with it a bunch in lateral flow immune protein chemistry due to its capillary action, but not sure how many other applications it has outside that niche.

Yep, this is exactly why we still use it. You’re right for the average desktop user though. I think the more common intro to Linux distro is probably mint nowadays

In industry, it’s still very popular. For instance, I work for a big biotech company and we deploy Ubuntu as the OS in a lot of our instruments.

That makes sense, but is still kind of mind boggling. Thanks!
