thats probably where being connected to toy story did them in. they banked on name recognition and they expected that name recognition to allow it to do well in theaters. turning red was a much better movie and in a world where there was no panini, it def wouldve done well at the box office. but they seemed spooked to put a new animated ip in theaters due to the panini so it is what it is

i mean, i hate to sound like a defeatist but china gave up on their zero covid policy because there are limits to what a totalitarian government can do. what covid protocols do you expect from a democratic government where a solid 35% of people will flaunt the bare minimum? if youre vaxxed you have an extremely low chance of death, and thats good enough for most people

infinity pool is categorized as sci-fi and its set in the present, so is dual
that said i think they are loose fits in terms of making commentary for the present day. they certainly are making a commentary but im not confident in saying that they truly encapsulate the 2020s
