I didn't see anyone else say it, but you'll need a hunting license - which requires a hunting safety course (online or in person). That will answer some of your questions..

Thanks! I'll definitely put the peppers elsewhere next time... All of this was just thrown together just to see what would stick with the least amount of effort the first time..
I don't have compost, but I need to, so I'll try that eventually..

I did raised beds this year with pre-started broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, hot peppers, basil, thyme, and one other herb I can't remember.
I've never grown anything before:
broccoli and tomatoes went nuts. Peppers grew but struggled. Herbs were fine. Cauliflower was fine...
Pay attention to the soil you use and note that (at least I was told) you'll have to replace it every year.
Thinking of doing potatoes this year.
Location: pretty damn far north.

Heh. Rural north. Moosehead lake is more than a hundred miles ... Southish ... Of me ;)

The experience is probably pretty wild even if you can't see it. The change in lighting is surreal.

Been looking at the maps and a lot of smaller places are trending more D than they usually do and, where R leads or came out ahead, they didn't come out that far ahead. Basically looks like most of the state is going 50/50ish with a slight lead for R and Portland and the coast are anchoring the larger D lead.

I mean, even if they're not faking it, OP didn't specify that it has to be living?

Ok, yeah, that's hunting specific. Edit: the ten feet thing is, rather.

I've been looking for the road reference - particularly the 10' one. I can't find it. Can you point me to it? And are you sure that's not a hunting restriction?
I'm really asking, not challenging you! :)

Maine State Code: can't fire a weapon from a point or have a bullet come within 100 yards or 300 feet of a building without the permission of the owners of the building. Also, I believe, but do not know that the bullet can't cross a road. (This, err, makes sense even if it's not a law). In towns more populated than where I am, this might be pretty restrictive, but if you've got five miles behind you I suspect you may be able to swing it... (Please have a backstop and check for any atv or snowmobile trails and stuff back there, too)
Also, as others have said, some municipalities will have more restrictive laws. Where I live, they do not.
I'd call my town/municipality office and ask. I tried calling the county law enforcement folks where I am (my town doesn't have any) and they just quoted the 100 yard limit back to me ....
Culturally, let people know (assuming you don't want to be a bad neighbor) and don't be an asshole with the noise.... But generally, no one seems to care much. I shoot several days a week in my back yard and I hear shots from others on a pretty regular basis.

Lacking other knowledge, ppl tend to vote for names/people/images they're more familiar with. If something is known, the familiarity still almost certainly increases comfort in voting. It's our lizard brains at work.

Reply to comment by thesleazye in UMaine Presque Isle by thesleazye
If it hasn't been said elsewhere, Presque Isle also has a very, very, very small airport but it does have one and does commercial flights daily out to JFK (I think? Or DC), which should get you where you need to go if you need to travel from a connections perspective.
Aside: I left city life (Charlotte, DC, Seattle, elsewhere) for northern Maine (I'm an hour from presque isle) and love it. Presque Isle has all the commercial establishments you might want, but is probably missing the social scene - I've heard it's stayed subdued from pandemic. There is at least a weekly karaoke night??
