Reply to TIL that Al Pacino boycotted the 45th academy awards in 1973, because despite having more screen time than Marlon Brando, he was nominated for best supporting actor and not best actor. by VengefulMight
I would have switched it. Actually, I would have given the supporting award to James Caan. He was the pulse of the movie until...

Reply to TIL Drinking on St. Patrick's Day was largely frowned upon until the late 1970s. Restriction were lifted for Lent, but only for the Food part, not for the Drinking part. by EQ2_Tay
My favorite Irish drinking story:
I worked for a restaurant. Around 9 am the head manager gets there. An Irish manager then showed up a few minutes later, saying he was on schedule to open that day. Head manager told him "No, I did the schedule, you're off today..."
Irish manager goes home. Couple of hours later, head manager checks schedule to see who's closing and sees that he is supposed to close and the Irish manager was supposed to open.
Now head manager has to open and close. He calls Irish manager and asks him if he can come in and close that night.
Irish manager: "Dude, I'm Irish. It's 12 noon on my day off. I'm already hammered!"
;). God love em.

Back in my party days, the one thing that scared me more than anything was allowing myself to call out of work because I was hungover, or up all night, or just wasnt in the condition to work.
Going to work was my punishment because I knew if I called out once, it would be much easier to do it twice, then three times, then ultimately my life is a mess.
Have you taken other days off because of drinking or drugging? You might have bigger problems waiting for you.

They just need to add a "NO PARENTS ALLOWED" clause to all children's sporting events.
It's much safer that way.

Reply to TIL the 1979 cult classic The Warriors was based on the ancient story of the Anabasis, wherein Xenophon and his group of Greek mercenaries attempt to escape from Persia after the death of Cyrus. by kevlarbuns
There's a director's cut where Walter Hill inserts comic book style transitions to move from one 'chapter' to another. Kind of cool but slightly disruptive to the pacing.

Their last album, where the other members insisted on writing and recording songs, pretty much shows that... John was 99.9999% responsible for their success. :)
I've read where he said he also did a lot of the drum fills on the songs.

The Albert Hall doc on Netflix is great. They were incredibly tight playing live. Sounded just like the records.
