Reply to Yale by thug_nificent
It would be great if more Yale grads ended up staying in CT and ventured outside of the New Haven bubble.

Reply to Where is the best place to purchase a birthday cake for an 18th birthday? by Healthy_Block3036
Need more detail! Are you looking for an epic custom cake like on Cake Boss or the best grocery chain cake? I think the best bet is to treat yourself to a few slices from different places so you can taste your way around CT until you find your perfect match. I do hope you support a small local business!

My family always order from them, but a few weeks ago we got a birthday cake and it was the same price but noticeably smaller than usual with no heads up. Thankfully, it was a small gathering so we had enough cake to go around but it would have been both embarrassing and disappointing if more people had arrived.

I work as a sub paraprofessional in Farmington and I’d definitely recommend the district. All of the kids are really cared for. For example, everyone makes the effort to get to know the all of the kids names, even if they are support staff and don’t directly work with them every day. Also, all of the special ed teachers I’ve worked with in the district have gone above and beyond. For example, while working in the special ed classroom during summer school, every Friday we would have water play outside with popsicles and once a week we’d do a “cooking activity.” In addition to traditional class work, all of them went out of their way to help students feel like it was just another camp.
Also, kids in Unionville go to the Farmington district schools so you could also consider moving there! I can’t speak to any other districts but I know that Avon is a safe and comfortable town.
Finally, don’t be afraid to directly contact the head of special education at any of the schools you are considering. They can set up a tour and help talk you through any of your concerns.
Hard no on sending your kid to school in Hartford ❌

People don’t do it because there’s no need to. It’s DC, not Connecticut.

Reply to Credit unions? by Redsmedsquan
It’s free to apply to all credit union. Are you sure you understand what a credit union is though? It’s just a community focused bank— not really credit score focused, but many offer financial workshops and advice for members. I recommend Dutch Point Credit Union, but you have to live in an associated town.
I think your best bet for getting an apartment right now if your having trouble with credit is to try and find one that doesn’t require a credit check and work out your credit stuff slowly cus that takes time.
