Reply to I don't see why AGI would help us by TheOGCrackSniffer
it would be a machine process capable of adapting any series of problems and datasets, further it could "learn" from doing said problems and evaluating datasets (language, math, DNA), and essentially reprogram itself to get exponentially better at "learning."
Take the 2+2=4 problem (and more broadly 2+2=5). AGI would be able to solve 2+2=4 without any additional information, separate from a dictionary, similar to how a child in preschool would learn math with blocks, similarly AGI would be able to think on the moral problem of 2+2=5.
We don't know what AGI really is because we have a technology limit, ie. we can't synthesize the human brain, beyond having a child. And we can't recreate the human brain organically because of the ethical implications (and well, we don't know how to either).

AGI is kinda like Star Trek futurism, where you wouldn't actually need cash, you just get chits for use in the assembler. As a society you would just be waiting around in realspace waiting for the AI to come up with solutions to n-compute problems.
I think a bigger problem would be humanity in trying to get away from baser instincts, drugs and self depravity. It sort of goes into Brave New World, where Soma is the better drug and it leaves people harmless and willing to exist safely as opposed to something else (like crime).

Yeah, I agree. I think there are a lot of bad jobs out there where automation is too expensive (humans are the automatons). Like the dishwasher example. Someone has to load the machine or unload it, and the underlying question of is the service industry simply BS? You don't need to go eat at a restaurant, etc.
I worked in IT and had no clue really what we did in connection to the various business sections. A lot of it was checkmarking that things were up, or checkmarking just for the sake of.
Or you have jobs that are deprecated where only 1 person knows how it works, but still critical and can't be automated. Its too old to be replaced.
