I would consider splurging on a wework or some kind of alternative area to work for a while. Or consider heading to the library for a few hours if the wifi is good and you don’t have calls. I’ve been in this position, it totally sucks

Love the idea that tourists are now going to be calling the Washington monument “wash mon.” Not a criticism of you, just cracks me up

Have a coffee in Logan circle
Go for a round of frisbee by the monument

Don’t let people rush you. There are apartments all over the city. Rushing is a classic sign of a scam

That’s worth it tbh. I rented out a room in an Airbnb and in 4 days you’ll have plenty of time to line up apartment tours and pick something

It’s a pain in the ass but start recording prices for items for some of your weekly staples at different store. You’ll learn when something is expensive and when something is a great deal, and random things like what’s surprisingly cheap at WF and dumb expensive at giant

Safeway (at least by DuPont) is soooooo expensive. Like even worse than Whole Foods I think. I went for a box of Frosted Flakes - it was like 7.50! Compared to like 4 at Walmart or 5 for a cereal at Whole Foods

I think it really depends on the person. I’ve lived in several major cities and in some, petty thefts are quite common if you look smaller or are a woman. I’m targeting advice to a person who has 0 experience city living and may not understand even the basics

A homeless guy called me a racist name just for walking on the sidewalk past him, if someone is gonna lash out that’s on them

Relatedly, if you’re dumb lost and need to really look at google maps, try to pop into a cvs or something to do so, not be out at night staring at your phone on the sidewalk. I also learn the routes to my house that are well transited, or have a lot of hotels, bars, and businesses open at night. Try to avoid walking home on quiet empty streets

There’s also scams unfortunately where some folks ask for donations. If you want to donate, go to an orgs website. I can think of another recurring scam where a very nice young couple say they just moved in for law school and need cash for a car lock out. Unfortunately it’s hard to be nice in a city but just say no sorry.

Agree, don’t treat people like they don’t exist if it looks like they’re just asking for cash. Just say sorry and keep going. If you’re a young woman and a man is leering, do not make eye contact.

This is a long term thing but I just don’t buy clothes that wrinkle. I can’t be bothered to iron so I won’t buy anything that has wrinkles in the store.
Alternatively, wear your work clothes to the gym so they don’t wrinkle, and then keep them folded nicely in the gym locker.

I think this may be it honestly. I used to get a ton of matches and get less this year no major differences in my appearance either but I’m no longer 23 :(
