Maybe you can start small if you haven't read that much. A professor used to tell us that; that you don't run a marthon on the first go, you start training little by little. Same with literature, if you grab the Quxiote as your first book you'll feel bored, defeated and won't really want to read anymore. But maybe you can start with "easier" stuff.
If you can tell us a tad about your interests so we can better pinpoint to a book you'll really be intersted in, that'd be great.
Some books I feel that you'll love coud be:
- The Strain: I feel this is a really good option since it's an easy read, really interesting and falls under a lot of the genres you're interested in. Just dive in without reading anything about it.
- The Shadow of the Wind: One of my favourite reads.
- PenPals: Scared the blyat out of me.
- Tales From the Gridsquare: Same as the above.
- A Wizard of Earthsea
- The Caves of Steel
- A Song of Ice and Fire
- Wheel of Time
- The Hobbit: If you want to get into Tolkien, start with this. It's pretty easy and fun.
I'll try thinking of more.

I mean, not controversial. It's that the translations aren't the best. And it's a love it or hate it deal.

A Wizard of Earthsea. I like The Witcher series, although it can be a tad controversial. There's A Song of Ice and Fire.
rohtbert55 t1_j2a8qxq wrote
This might be a controversial one, but I think American Sniper as a film really didn't respect the book that much.
rohtbert55 t1_j29xr1m wrote
- Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit
- John Paul the Great: His Five Loves
- As the Crow Flies
- Lines of Departure

Yeeeeeeeeees! Love the memes, would you like to know more? but I remeber that after I read the book I just couldn't watch the film. The whole love triangle, how Rico just casually becomes an officer NO FREAKING ARMOURED SUITS....a mess.

Have to agree. There are few things from the film adaptations I don't like (yes, even if they're not 100% book accurate), but not Glorfindel hitted hard. Maybe Because I didn't like Liv Tyler's Arwen that much...

Yeeeeeeeees! finally. I watched it the day it came out, and....It's not that it was abd, it's that it was dissapointing. I feel the filmakers tried focusing on scenes that were sure to cause an impact that they cut out super important and poignant scenes. I felt that it would've been a great WW1 film on it's own, but not that great as a rendition of hte book.

The Shadow of the Wind. You will not be dissapointed. One of my favourite reads. If not....The Time in Between by María Dueñas. There's a Matter of Honour or perhaps The Strain.

I HATE when put a movie poster as a cover. It just destroys a liitle part of the enjoyment of a book, IMHO (exception being my Starship Troopers copy)
rohtbert55 t1_iydt8v0 wrote
Three come to mind: The Frontline series by Marko Kloos (read it/discovered it this year); The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruíz Zafón and A Matter of Honour by Jeffrey Archer.

Try The Frontline series by Marko Kloos. I discovered it this yeara dn I'M OBSESSED with it. If not there's the usual suspects: Starship Troopers; The Caves of Steel; Have Spacesuit WIll Travel; The Moon is a Harsh Mistress; The End of Eternity; The Fountains of Paradise. Also maybe try The Witcher series or A Wizard of Esrthsea.
Also The Shadow of the Wind is a must read and one of my favourite novels. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Neither? I don't like Nietzsche and Kant is a tad dense for your first philosophy read. If you're interested in philosophy Maybe try The Story of Philosophy by Will Durant first.
