I am a teacher in the pioneer valley. She will need ti pass both MTEL tests before getting her license as the state does not offer reciprocity with other states. Most districts will not hire her under a provisional license without those tests but a few would (Holyoke and Springfield).

Neither is prohibitively hard - she will also have a much easier time getting a job if she has her SEI endorsement - also a test/class.

Check the DESE website for certification routes she can take.

If she had these licenses - and especially if she has any experience in sped - she could get hired in my district today.

Jobs get posted in April and throughout the summer.

Good luck and best wishes.

New England was settled by Protestants - Protestant culture still rules. Mardis Gras is connected to Catholic tradition preceding lent.

So I’d guess areas that were catholic/french catholic were more likely to celebrate.

I buy my king cakes online and have them shipped

Mercy sucks, can’t speak for Hartford, Cooley Dick has a new partnership with Mass General.

I use Baystate and they did a good job on a pretty major surgery as well as the birth of all my kids.

Work in a school built by one of these companies. Same issue. Lights all over campus were on 24/7 and there was no switch to shut them off. Dances in the gym could only be done by me and another staff member finding the right circuit breaker and shutting it off.

Closets in the hallways had lights in them - with no switches - they were on all the time.

Can’t even change the bells without calling a company in another state.

Rumor is the light bill jumped from 10k per period (monthly/quarterly Im not sure) to over 40k.

They literally walked around the building and made sure we weren’t charging our personal phones or had plug in pencil sharpeners.

Crazy.

Because I don’t want my family killed by you in your shit box whose frame is so rusted out it’s falling apart…or whose brakes and turn signals don’t work.

Sorry it’s an inconvenience - but get your jaloppy of the road. I grew up poor so I get it - and public transit sucks - but so does getting rear ended by a motorist driving a piece of shit with no insurance.

South Hadley gets their electricity from Holyoke - and - idk man. I’m glad you like South Hadley - they’ve got a nice parks and rec department going for them.

My electric bill was $105. I don’t think it’s ever been below 40$. So good job - hopefully someday soon we can all be so lucky

Lots of family from greenfield and surrounding areas - it’s a decent place to raise a family but I know the schools have struggled with funding bc of a limited tax base.

The heroin thing is true in pretty much any struggling mill town and particular true along the 91 corridor - but i can’t imagine it’s any worse than parts of the Boston area.

If I could choose a town in the pioneer valley to live in id probably go with easthampton, parts of Southampton or Holyoke if I wasn’t worried about schools (that’s a more controversial pick I think)

To teach science you need to have the licenses for those specific courses and many districts will want you to have degrees in those specific fields.

I read a comment that said you don’t know what a para is…and you have zero teaching experience.

Please don’t just walk into a school and try to get a job…you might get it…but the kids are going to suffer.

Go through a licensure program, get some experience, get your SEI certification and maybe see if this is even a job you want or can do.

I’m getting serious “I’ll just teach” or “teaching sounds easy” vibes - and you’re going to burn yourself out and mess with the kids in the process of finding out why those ideas are dangerous

Anything is possible with enough $$ so figure out how much you can spend first I think.

Friends of mine run mini splits and they will beat down to 30 degrees outside, more soecualized units I’ve read will go down to 0.

For the money I’d install a pellet stove insert and have it tied into a battery back up somewhere else in the house that your future solar will run.

Pellet boilers are a thing - my high school was heated entirely on a massive pellet boiler system.
