You'd be surprised. I usually got "idk. Shorter." When I asked what they wanted. Sometimes I'd try asking how long it's been since their last cut to get an idea of how much has grown out but then I'd just get a shrug.
Usually the easy ones were the guys that came straight from outdoor work that have been getting the exact same cut since they were kids (or at least most of their adult lives)

If its simplified its nice. I liked the guys that sat down and said "number 2 on the sides and finger length on top" or whatever variation of that

My dude it is a pillow. It's all personal preference. There's no point in spending hundreds on a pillow if you can't afford it because you should throw them out in a couple years anyway. High quality doesn't really matter that much when it comes to disposable items since you're gonna throw it out before it wears out anyway
