You might just buy a larger piece of land and subdivide it to make this more straight forward.
In my town I could essentially have 2 houses on our lot ( dwelling and accessory dwelling) The limit was the septic capacity which is done by bedrooms here in vermont.
If you wanted say 3 homes you’d need to subdivide. Again this is my town.

I would say propane line to the house adds value. Even if you have no particular use for it. Just a thought if power goes out while you are away you can’t start a fire in the wood stove.

For sure as a cyclist I can appreciate a watt. A single kWh ride is a pretty epic for anyone except a true pro (5 hours at 200 watts)!

There’s literally a 12 foot wall of snow (that won’t melt) in front the path to my tank from the plow guy so I haven’t figured out what he’s going to do there.

We have a adorable little 11k btu Rinnai in the basement and a single Fujitsu 15RLS3H (if I remember right) on first floor. It heats fine. This is a well insulated 1800 sq ft house. We do have a wood stove I don’t NEED to use but it’s good to have.
I would say I wouldn’t want just the heat pump. I’d want at least a gas backup or wood stove.

Try a national forest camp site which could be free.

It really depends on the day. Almost everyone (id say everyone who can afford it) uses snow tires in the winter.

where I live the opportunities to be a part of the community are really unlimited. It’s more a limit of your time.
What I would say is check the real estate market and check internet access.

Either way you need to run power back to the utility… it shouldn’t need to go to the house necessarily.

Personally I’d rather fly out of btv but just flee out of Hartford for the first time. Direct to Orlando Florida for like $2000 cheaper than 1 stop from Btv. It was all very easy.

It usually depends on whether they have plumbing or not. No plumbing is more of a seasonal camp I think.
