I think you’re overestimating the time it takes to pair a weeks worth of socks in comparison to the overall task of laundry.

Same. I wouldn’t want to be a monosock, even though it must make laundry marginally easier.

That sounds good but I imagine that’s hardly a typical laundry timescale for most people; certainly not for me.
I line dry whenever I can, for example. Dryer is more for wet days or “I need this now” emergencies.
