I commuted on the bus for a little over a year and it was fine. Still take it to go out downtown.

Take the train. I drove to Quincy/North Quincy for 21 years and it SUCKED.
I have friends who commute via Amtrak - you can get tickets on Amtrak cheaper than on MBTA if you plan ahead. And it's a much nicer ride. But MBTA is not bad.

RISD Museum, snack your way around downtown: Jewelery District, Wickenden, Federal Hill. Maybe hop a bus down to Roger Williams Park.

We were planning a friend's 30th there. April 2020. So unfortunately never happened. Bummed because the venue looked amazing.

Recently had from Quan's Kitchen in North Attleboro and it was the best I've had in a while. Not overly saucy, white meat, actually spicy, broccoli cooked perfectly. Bit far to go but worth it!!

Shaw's NP has 3 bus lines that stop there, so may not be too bad. I know they were hiring recently.
Good luck! I know how hard it is being stuck somewhere you don't want to be.

Honestly between the Commuter Rail and Amtrak (Northeast Corridor and Acella trains), unless we have 3 feet of snow you should be alright. Especially heading towards Boston on the Commuter Rail.

Jewelery District:
-
Tiny Bar for cocktails.
-
Xaco Taco/District/Somo are all excellent food options on the same block. Or go 4 blocks over to Bayberry Garden.
-
Nick-A-Nees the next block over satisfies the live music and dive bar requirements (not sure about the darts though).
All are within a block of each other except for Bayberry. Parking is tricky but doable, or there are several bus lines in the area.
