Dick's diner in Murrysville has the best pie in the area. And the open face roast beef with gravy on everything has me drooling just thinking about it. That said, you'd impress your grandma, but not your date (unless that's grandma).

You aren't charged anywhere between Station Square and the science center (end of the line.) I don't think there's anything free that close to the city, but there are a bunch of lots on the North Side that run between $6-$9. Here's most of the parking on the north side: North Side Parking

Park in the big lot at Corrigan and 100 acres and walk up 100 Acres just a bit--you'll see a path into the woods. I've found a ton down there last year not far off the path.
