I was curious about the opposite. When is it socially acceptable to ask strangers for pharmaceuticals?

A Song of Ice and Fire novel series. I read Game of Thrones because I heard that it was going to be a TV series and as soon as I got to the incest part I turned off and forced myself to continue it. Then it had ice zombies and maybe/maybe not dragons and I was done with wanting to even watch the show. When the show first came out I did watch the first episode and wasn't impressed. I've never understood the hype for it.
