Now I can 100% see why the majority of people will not enjoy this game.
But for myself it was more than a game, it was a relatability experience.
A desolate land yet so full of life, no positive interactions with anyone except for the like meter, nobody to communicate with yet a huge community playing as you do. Sound familiar?
To start with, what made this game a masterpiece to me was the music, the music in this game is so depressing (don’t be so serious) yet at times inspiring (asylum for the feeling). These songs would appear at certain parts of the map or missions, the tone of the songs would fully match the tone of the landscapes.
See dead land que sad song, see a settlement you haven’t explored yet que inspirational music.
The story is so confusing yet so gripping. The mood and atmosphere matched a period in my life when I was so alone and thinking about finishing things. Then journeying through with Sam Porter Bridges, his grit and determination to bring America back to a civilised nation.
And let’s not forget about one of the most underrated badass characters in video game history, Clifford Unger. Every scene he was in was absolutely thrilling, the scene in the sewers where we are introduced to him, goosebumps.
