I would never dismiss an entire show because of a bad season (or even a bad series finale). If you loved the show, then love the show, but I can't see suddenly hating everything because of a season that wasn't good.

Yes! I'm also very much looking forward to S2 after that great season ending. They were just shooting a bunch of scenes in my town but nothing that would provide any hints at S2. :D

Did you watch True Detective? It's a really well produced/written show. Not sure I would say it's similar to Broadchurch, but if you like a crime drama series with dark undertones, this is well worth it.
Each season is a standalone story but personally I would skip Season 2.
