New Bedford has a longstanding strong street art culture and a very dedicated organization taking it further https://superflatnb.org/

NIMBY is anything that someone doesn’t want in their back yard. Bike paths, dispensaries, power stations, country club expansion etc, etc.

Sinton, the author of that article, has an amazing book called From Devil’s Den to Livkingwater. It’s about the Mill River in Northampton, but is really a history of the whole region. Incredible book and a must read for any Pioneer Valley resident.

There is a train from South Station to the Cape.
In the summer. hrm.

It’s VERY popular. They first ran a trial, it was so popular they added tons more cars and departures, then made it permanent. It runs behind my folks’ house.

Moved from W MA to Cape Cod in ‘81, made that area code transition just fine. Went to college in 617 in ‘88 right when they changed it, then left the state for 10ish years the next year and remain confused to this day.
Happy to be back in 413 now.

MassHealth is amazing as long as you can find a doctor that takes it. During covid the spouse lost their job, my income went down and we moved to a little higher income town - the child was put on MassHealth. Covered every single thing, not one cent of payment.

The South Coast also doesn’t have the Boston burb vibe which is a big plus. 20 miles away on the South Shore is a very different feeling.
Also, the commuter rail is coming to New Bedford and Fall River. Kind of a long trip, but you’re not in traffic.
madtho t1_j1o699f wrote
I always recommend the South Coast. Maybe a little further from Boston than you’d like, but *ocean*. It’s Cape Cod-like without the traffic. Warm communities, good schools. Look at Westport, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Mattapoisett. Marion is probably pricier and I don’t know the current state of Wareham’s schools, they were in a rough patch for a while there.

I recommend shopping around a little. For a while Target had my favorite eggs for $1.50 less than Stop & Shop (they went up a couple weeks ago). Now theres a local grocer that has the same eggs $1 cheaper than S&S. I eat a shit ton of eggs so it makes a difference for me.
If you’re outside of a city, local farm stand eggs don’t seem to have increased so they’re actually the bargain now. My wife has started taking a back road home from work every few days to hit a roadside stand.
