My biggest surprise of moving to DC? How nice the people working at DMV are! And efficient! I went to two locations for different issues: taking driving test, getting my license, registering out of state car etc and everyone was so nice and helpful. And know what they are doing! Unlike NYC DMV …

Lived in both NYC and DC, and straight up I would say for you … NYC. 80k is not going to get you very far, so be prepared to either have a roommate (or two), or live further out. But even living further out in Brooklyn or Queens, it would still give you a lot of “fun stuff” and gay community. NYC might not be a place you would stay forever, and you might even move down to DC in a few years, but you really should give it a try.

So guess what? The Apple Store at Carnegie Library was indeed closed early today! I tried to go in around 5:30 today and they were closed. Just a guy stood at the door and a sign saying special hours. Maybe a coincidence but now you mention this … who knows.

Second HRA Humane Rescue Alliance! It runs a pet pantry. I think it might be the only pet food bank in DC. Your donation would help the food insecure families to feed their pets. The donation are also tax deductible and you can get a receipt (if you want).

In addition to recommendation about Rover, I highly recommend getting a pet monitor (those with treat dispenser). In that case you can monitor your cat even when you are away! You can speak to the cat through the microphone as well. Definitely get one with treat dispenser - because some cats will come when you call their name, and other will only come when you throw the treats. I love my pet monitor and it’s one of my best investment. I am also paranoid about my cat got stuck somewhere and no one notice, so I don’t just leave her home alone with auto feeder, but rather hire a pet sitter to come by daily.

We reached out several times this summer and they never get back to us. I don’t know if they are short staffed and not taking in new clients? But the complete lack of response is quite discouraging. Ended up using Rover and had good experience.

Oh man. I am so sorry to hear that. It’s year 3 of the pandemic and somehow shortage like this still happens from time to time. I think your best bet is to call every independent pet store in the area and see if any of them have it. And if you have access to a car, extends it far out into MD and VA. I remembered driving around trying to find some KMR for my kittens during pandemic … not fun, but we do what we gotta do for our cats! Good luck.
