No. The plot of RE is essentially episodic and simple enough that you really don't need to understand past game's continuity to keep up, and the plot itself is cheesy B-movie mania that almost never tries to deliver super serious plot points. All you need to know is Umbrella are an evil corporation that make and sell bioweapons.

It's an especially silly reason not to play 7/8, as those two entries are even more standalone. You can count the direct links to past games in 7 on one hand

The "harvested for ancient energy" bit, yeah, ~200 hours of looking at the architecture 'n stuff.

The basic idea... Not really?

  • Something happened to Ganon that made him begin "reincarnating" as Calamity Ganon, all normal forms of him are spoken of as phenomenally ancient legends
  • We see an extremely ancient corpse that is clearly Ganondorf sealed away with a much more pure version of Malice leaking from it

There's more evidence about the specifics of why he might be down there than that, but the basic idea of "oh crap the real ganondorf was down there?" is something that anyone paying attention should've picked up on pretty much immediately

It really shouldn't be a mystery at all and it's a real bummer it is.

Super Mario Bros is also an entire franchise built off the foundation of "get from A to B and don't die to the obstacles along the way".

But we never got people confused asking "what? All you do is run to the right and jump on turtles? How is that supposed to be fun lmao"

Death Stranding is essentially just that idea abstracted out into a 3rd person action adventure game, and with an emphasis on inventory management/tactical problem solving with equipment.

Not according to your account history, which seems to revolve around hating immigrants living in HMOs near you and how much you want the city to raze their homes to the ground. Did their excess satellite dishes murder your parents, or something?

>I wonder when the Labour party is going to have its first ever female or ethnic minority leader

I guess when they go through three Prime Ministers who weren't elected by the people in a row, the third time will be the charm then, too
