Reply to comment by bjb406 in Boston University researchers claim to have developed new, more lethal COVID strain in lab - Researchers at Boston University added a spike protein from the Omicron variant with the original Wuhan strain, which has an 80% kill rate (in certain mice) by izumi3682
The spike protein if I’m remembering right is what decides how infectious a Covid strain is. If they wanted to make a truly fucked strain they would of combined the infectious ability of Omicron, which is not the more deadly strain as it attacks the upper respiratory system predominantly, and combined that with Delta. Delta was murdering people. It went for the lower respiratory destroying lungs.
Delta also had an extremely fast and high viral load that would build up in people in just a few days. Likely that is what prevented it from being worse spread and becoming the dominating strain which would of killed a much larger amount of people.

Yea unfortunately with Down syndrome and Autism some are at higher risk to onset some really terrible comorbid conditions and higher risk to certain neurodegenerative diseases with age. Which is why we need the research so much and for people to stop fear mongering research.
We were told by doctors our son might be at higher risk to develop seizures as he gets older and so far he hasn’t but you know what would be great would be if we could figure out why some people on the spectrum have that increased risk and ways to treat or prevent it from happening.
