You're going to see a lot of conflicting answers here. I know plenty of locals who can't afford snow tires this year/still heading to work like normal. Smart? No. Advisable? No. But it's possible. I think the most important variable is, have you driven in snow before? If you haven't, I wouldnt risk it and use snow tires. These locals I know who have been risking it with summer tires have lived here their whole lives and know how to drive in snow. I'm not saying that makes it less dangerous.... Just more predictable in how to drive/handle numerous skids.
Can you rent a car with snow tires?

"we are finally ready to buy in Waterbury" 😂 so are you and half of the state
Let me add to this. It's almost impossible finding a RENTAL unit in Waterbury, let alone buying a house. Sure, they're out there. But are you willing to pay $150-$250K above what it's worth? Raised interest rates really haven't budged the Waterbury housing prices... just stabilized them. There's too high of demand and no supply.
Waterbury "village" you're very liked to have to pay for high flood insurance. "Waterbury Center"... Stowe is going to drive these run down spots up well above their worth.
If you're a high baller (looking for houses over 700K) and can afford Perry Hill, Blush hill, or Kneeland Flats, I'm sure there's some of those for sale that are stagnant on the market. Real estate agent could assist in those ones.
Good luck. I can't fault you for wanting to live there.

Friend from Boston says she absolutely hates Vermont drivers because the friendliness can actually create dangerous situations. I see it all the time now
Edit: also, fuck anyone who stops in the middle of a roundabout to let folks in. Absolutely unhinges me every time... Perfect example of my above comment

Who do you see there? I've been there and this was one of my bad interactions, I'd be willing to switch Drs there though

At this point, as long as I was comfortable with the service and it was effective I'd be willing to travel. I live in north central VT.

Reply to "Dogspam" by pv_punisher
My main gripe is people who don't leash their dogs while on public trails. I have no idea how well trained your dog is, and each encounter depends on me trusting that the person has trained their dog well enough to listen by command. I'd say a good 80% are not trained on voice command. I don't fucking care if your dog is friendly or not, I don't want it jumping on me and making me uncomfortable in a public space. I've had enough bad run ins with dogs where I'm too uncomfortable to use our local trail as the locals don't care enough to respect the leash laws nearby. Very frustrating.

He is QUITE far from your average Republican. I'd say he's an independent running fiscally conservative He supports LGBTQ and gay marriage He's pro abortion He separates state and church Maybe not extensively, but he has passed gun control and reform He admitted that he did not vote for Trump and instead voted for Biden; called for Trump to concede; did not support the insurrection.
He now has a lot of experience that sets him apart from others. He has done a lot for the state over the years, it's just not flashy or glamorized or instant so folks often look over it all. I truly believe he has the public in mind / does what he can without others getting in the way / beaucracy of govt.
He is very level headed and good at public speaking. He really has that down to earth Vermont vibe, while at the same time can keep professional. This is what gets the country red voters in Vermont as well as the blue voters as well. He's not out there on a pedestal playing fancy politician, and likewise he's not in a commercial with a fucking AK-47 looking like an assshat like other state republicans portray their campaign. One thing I love about him if he IS receptive to the public and ideas, and while he doesn't always agree he doesn't shut things down instantly. When he talks It's not all fluffed up, it's straightforward and clear. That's what Vermonters like. IMO he did a tremendous job navigating covid and in educating public /public safety measures. On top of that, knowing he HAS been in office for so long reassures the public that he knows how to do this job, he's not a newbie.
Our democratic candidates over the terms either don't have the experience to match a governor's experience, or they're too extreme to capture the many red county votes of Vermont, or they're just too political / annoying.

No. We're in a housing crisis, and our job market is slim picking unless you're already coming from money or make big bucks remotely / in a high end career. The few spots where housing is cheap/affordable, internet/cell service is slim and expect 45 mi. -1.5 hours to a profitable job (unless you get good enough internet to remote work). Are you ready for 7 months of snow and only 2-3 months of warm weather? Our winters are pretty but it's dark after 3:30pm -4:30pm for a good portion of our winter. Are you passionate about outdoor activities? We have slim pickings when it comes to stores/malls/things to do other than drinking or doing outdoor activities. Most Vermonters are to themselves so it can be VERY difficult to make friends / isolating. Is it a beautiful and unique state? Yes of course..but remember living here is going to be a 100% different experience from the glory of having visited here 3 different times.
