I agree with other comments about government involvement in expanding supply as a holistic long-term solution.
In the short-term, it's a big city. Greenville, the Heights, Lafayette, Bayview--there are still affordable places to be had. They won't have all the amenities that DT has right now, but still safe neighborhoods with their own character and charm.

Sad to see this; I always enjoyed their food and the vibe was nice. Their brunch is great.

Pilates worked for me. Prob not as flexibilty focused as yoga, but I def got much more limber doing it (amd none of the woo). Project Pilates on Columbus is great--small classes, calm vibe.

The Extra at the MLK light rail stop is actually not too bad. The Grind coffee shop has a store a little further down Pacific (towards LSP)--even has some fresh produce. And for small stuff there are lots of reasonable bodegas in the area.

Grace Church Van Vorst serves breakfast to hundreds of hungry people every Sat & Sun (days that shelters and other services aren't as available). Just show up around 7am.

If the Faulkner Act doesn't apply, then draft legislation that does. Show a visible commitment to ending the practice. Rally state legislation. This would be a big step in the right direction.

Old timers know this as Mosquito Park. It's also the best sledding in the city.

Yeah, it's a concept that looks great on paper. 10 big screens showing sports in an edgy, dark bar sounds fun. The reality is that you are blinded by the screens and then can't see shit anywhere else in the room.

It's deceptive because the place is seriously massive. There are like 4 different environments. Don't get me wrong, it's not my scene; I've only been in a couple of times, but I was amazed at how expansive the space is.

Reply to Landlord raise rent by 20%, citing property tax increase. How bad is the tax increase really? by a_teletubby
Q4 alone is twice what it was last year. That's about $1k to $2k increase for an average home/condo in JC. This is after an increase of almost $1k in Q3. So if your rent is $2k a month, and you landlord needs make up the current gap, then 10% is the min increase. However, there is nothing to suggest that there won't be continued increases in the year ahead, so there's an argument for raising rents over 10%. Still, 20% seems like a bigger jump than is likely warranted.
