Where would works of Renaissance masters like Titian or Caravaggio (I know you could also call Caravaggio Baroque, but that's not relevant here) have been publicly displayed in the 1850s?

I'm currently reading Osman's Dream by Caroline Finkel and I'm not quite to the 18th century yet, but going by the index there are several chapters about the 18th century Ottomans. From Mustafa II's accession to Napoleon first being mentioned is something like 70 pages.

I was there in 2016, and I have photos, and they're perfectly good photos (well, some of them, but I'm not much of a photographer, so that's good for me), and they don't give any sense of what it's like to be there.
