Me too. It's just me and the two kids, so it'll be pretty quiet yet not easy to decide on a movie to watch together. Hoping to convince them to play a board game though that tends to be tough as well. I may pull out the old Atari 2600 to spark some enthusiasm.

Just drove by, and the line went to the end of the street. About 60 people or so.

My opinion only: learn to decorate your house or apartment for the season. It's not that hard or expensive - use the internet. Pick 2 to 3 cocktails, learn to make them well and call them something seasonal. Have your own little happy hour party. It will cost more than you and your partner and friends standing in line for 2 hours plus a cocktail but I guarantee you will be doing something that your friends will find much more fun.

Online furniture sales have really exploded, and if you're discerning, there is some decent stuff. I recently purchased bedside tables and a dresser from the same set that were sold by different vendors, I think Cymax and Home Depot of all places. Hardwood and veneer over MDF construction. Even staining and good hardware. About the same price as the aforementioned chain stores during a sale.

I'm going in a different direction here and suggest going back to Hanes, rooms to go, Haverty, whatever. You now know the landscape and how the stores operate. Stay firm with the staff regarding whether you want help right then or not. Ask questions, take as much time as you want, be confident, and don't feel like you need to be pressured to do anything.

Anxious uncertainty and indecision are chum in the water for any sales person. Get comfortable in their presence and don't allow yourself to get pushed around and you'll do fine.

Appraised? Nowhere. Fair market value.

David Cooper at Watch & Pen is a good option for refurb/repairs. Does competent work on luxury watches. Call ahead to confirm hours/availability. Clockworks is an option as well but I've had less luck there. Authorized dealers usually mail out, so you can cut out the middle main by mailing your watch to an authorized service center. Or mail it to a reputable repair shop.

I might be interested in the Seamaster if you haven't already received a dozen DMs about it.

Edit: search eBay (completed/sold) and chrono24 to learn about valuation. Of course, a serviced watch with original (or OEM) parts is worth more, stuff like lume and dial refinishing and a quality case polishing/brushing will help. Case material (stainless steel, 14k yellow gold, etc.) Makes a huge difference. So valuation varies immensely and is often more about who wants it when than a set intrinsic value. Best wishes!

Any idea whether buying tickets for these events is a charitable gift eligible to be used as a tax deduction? I wouldn't think so, but thought it wouldn't hurt to find out.

Edit: answer is, "it's complicated." https://www.tcfhr.org/is-the-cost-of-event-tickets-tax-deductible/#:~:text=As%20a%20general%20rule%2C%20if,of%20tangible%20value%20in%20return.

There may be volunteer activities and definitely runs (races and informal).

From your other posts you sound outgoing. Maybe ask for some recommendations for bars that people can go to solo and have fun. Off hand I might suggest Bamboo Cafe But there are a ton of others.

Younger people are often attracted to older people because of the power, common knowledge, and experience that the older people may have. It offers considerable growth potential and access to resources that a younger person may not have.

Both parties potentially have resources desired by the other. I believe that a younger person is just as likely to use an older person as the older person is to try and use the younger person. That said, I believe the vast majority of older people have no interest in grooming or meddling and younger people have no interest in manipulating older people to get gifts, trips, etc.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone in their twenties has the agency and wherewithal to choose partners wisely.
