absolutely, yes. here is a quick guide from the nedcc about mold in books and other documents. nedcc is geared towards archival work, but the information is applicable to any document collection.

if you don't like something, no matter how beautifully written, just stop reading it. you aren't "giving up," you are simply not dedicating any more of your free time to something you don't enjoy.

i do read more nonfiction now, but mostly because i need to read those things for my job. as far as personal interest reading goes, still majority fiction.
