I used HR Block last year and all I have to say about that experience is, never again. What a nightmare. I used Free Tax USA this year for myself and my partner and it was very easy.

Are they allowed to bill you like that for the water...? Like, unmetered? My Veolia bill is never more than $30.

Ok... except you're hurting your industry by undervaluing design work and taking away paid work from people who do this to pay their rent. You would rather hurt your peers to help strangers? Look into non profits if you want to volunteer your time or charge a small fee, otherwise make up projects on your own.

Crime happens anywhere there is an opportunity for it to happen. You came from Brooklyn, you know the signs to look out for.
If you walk a few more blocks in any direction you will find different food.

This part is a culture problem - there's nothing inherently wrong with nightlife and a decent amount of people (like myself) are dying for REAL nightlife with real people enjoying real DJs playing real, good music. That gets ruined by the weird alcoholic booze culture people have going on around here.

Yup, that's just how gentrification works in cities. That's why you don't see NYU students and families from the Midwest with strollers walking around Canarsie. I was just making a generalization, one would have to write a whole essay to address the way every neighborhood will be affected individually.

Jersey City is nearly stuffed to the gills with highrises, Newark is no doubt next in line. The gentrification near the PATH is already started, it's going to keep spreading.

I use the citymapper app, it has real time data so I just plan to get there shortly before it comes. It runs more all night than my bus lines :( Ubers only after 2 am.

Uber is like $50-60 back from mid to downtown depending where you're going ($20 fee to go to the other side of the tunnels) and path runs all night.

I tip decent but my % is calculated as low because Uber bases on pre discount total + tax + fee, but I use a lot of discounts, it's the only time I can afford to order. Like, I will get $40 of food for less than $20, and tip $4. Wondering what y'all think of that?

My HR Block issue was a little unique in that I made the mistake of going with the one closest to me in UC and they paired me for the virtual service with an older woman who wasn't familiar with my tax forms and didn't speak English well enough to understand me explaining to her EXACTLY how to do it.
I understand the necessity of having Spanish speaking professionals here, but I have no idea why the company is allowing people to be paired with her indiscriminately or why she is called an "expert" when she had never seen some of the forms I needed.
I had to escalate the issue three times, go in for my VIRTUAL return, and then go to a DIFFERENT HR Block to finally fix everything. Company never got back to me about the case I opened about it.
Only good part is I learned enough about doing taxes through that whole process to be able to do it myself for the rest of my life. Ok, rant over, thanks for listening hahahha.
