Reply to Eli5: If we had steam powered trains back in the day, why didn’t steam become a common “clean” energy source? Why did it die out? by melatonin1212
Old steam engines were powered by burning wood or coal to make the steam. Not a clean energy source at the time.

Reply to LPT: Don't get married just because you are afraid to die alone and want someone to take care of you when you're old. This only works if you die ahead of your spouse or your kids can put their own lives on hold to become eldercare for you. by zazzlekdazzle
Who thinks like this? "I'm going to get married now because 40 years from now I'm afraid of X."

Reply to Watch Boston Dynamics' Atlas humanoid work at a 'construction site' - The Robot Report by Gari_305
This is very cool but completely choreographed with programing. Atlas cannot react to a fluid situation. If the human worker just accidentally dropped his pliers, they couldn't just ask Atlas to pick them up and bring them to him. It's cool that Atlas can be programed to do stuff like this but it's a huge amount of effort to make one set of movements happen.

Reply to comment by Crafty-Shape2743 in LPT Request: My cat, who has been living with my family for 1 year, keeps ignoring us. She won't let us get close to her and will run away whenever someone gets close to her. by MeeLegend3009
We have had a feral cat since he was a kitten. He was born in our wood pile. He and his brother are the only two we ever saw. Their mom brought them onto our deck to live in a cat house I built them. Eight years later the mom has passed away and one of the boys is completely domesticated and the other lives in our house, sits with us but won't let us touch him. I don't think the Op's cat is unhappy, just not ready to be domesticated. I think the worst thing you can do is take it back to the shelter. Just more trauma.

And if you're having cake, make sure you have ice cream as well.

Reply to LPT: No one cares. Everyone has their own problems. by [deleted]
This is true. People are self centered and want to keep it light and fluffy. A plea for empathy will only net you cursory sympathy. You're alone with your problems in life for the most part, it sucks but best to get used to it.
