I've found for me, if I try to avoid feelings I'm having and ignore them, I can end up feeling worse. So I try to just ... accept that I'm having those feelings/thoughts, and just let them exist for a while. Sometimes you just need to take some time to feel bad about stuff.
I recently lost a close friend (he's still alive, just being a jerk), and it's been pretty awful. So I'm just taking this week to feel shitty about it, because ... well, it's shitty. I'm just gonna feel bad for a while, that's normal and okay.

I honestly don't try to overcome them.
