As someone around your age, I get it. I'm not sure I would categorize all Bostonians in the lanes you've given, I feel like in general mid-30s many people are already set in their ways and it's difficult to naturally find places to meet people.

Not sure where in EE you are from, but I may know of a community that frequently puts on events and also teams up with the Ukrainian diaspora if that's something you may be interested in.

I feel like one of the people who really like to post photos of T countdowns being shitty should make a subreddit called MBTA alerts or something. This happens every week.

Hi - I won't question you on your certainty that you'll be able to stay and work in the US after school, I'll assume you're smart enough to have figured that out. I do want to point out that we have a lot less social safety nets here and the idea of a pension as a nurse is not even a thing here. I cannot speak to nursing in Germany, but nursing here is not necessarily a lucrative field. Many are leaving bedside now due to poor regulations, overworking, low pay etc. The same is true for teaching.

Besides the singleton issue, you may struggle to find a rescue that thinks it's a good idea to adopt out a cat in a 2bedroom with 2 adults, 2 dogs, and 2 kids. They'll probably wonder where the cat will be able to escape to if it doesn't want to be bothered by the dogs or vice versa.

I assume you own so asking your landlord for permission isn't a thing either.

I will never ever take a bus to NYC again. NE Regional beats it every time.

I will say, sometimes the line to get on the train in NYC is intense, especially on Sunday afternoon trains. They specifically don't list the departure platform until a few minutes before and the crowd kind of goes a little mad if it's delayed even by 10 minutes. Overall, still worth it.

Also work in a life sciences company in Cambridge. We went from this rollout of 'come in if required as part of your job' to whispers this year about mandated days back. We lost some benefits over the pandemic that had nothing to do with remote work, so it initially felt like their rollout was to bandage that. Now they're taking that away, most likely next year, and I have a feeling we're about to see a mass exodus. Anecdotally, my team has a lot of people who had 2-3 hour round trip commutes before and I really can't see them going back to wasting that time instead of spending it on their families on a C-suite whim.
