ICE engines have also been commonplace for like 100 years give or take. EVs are just starting to get real traction. Whole "Devil you know" type deal.
I've been guilty of putting more money in a shit box car than it's even worth because I know what's wrong with it and can live with those problems. With a new (to me) shit box, I don't know all the problems and quirks.
