If 30% is literally the bare minimum required to avoid environmental collapse, it's obviously not enough. That leaves no leeway, no room for error or accidents, man-made or natural, even IF everyone actually abides by it. It's pure human hubris to also assume these calculations are 100% accurate when dealing with such complex systems or that some new factors couldn't change things. You don't park a car on the very edge of a cliff and then get to shocked that something happened to it when you could have easily parked it at a safer distance.

I would describe their relationship more as intimate rather than romantic. Romance implies certain things that relationship is completely devoid of and, as you said, perhaps even things these characters are incapable of.
Not every deep, meaningful and fulfilling relationship needs to be romantic to be so. It's a weird, somewhat fetishistic, and honestly rather reductive lens to view relationships. So no surprise redditors jump on it.

This is just some dumb reasoning. If an American went to Finland and made a statue of Santa Claus there, complete with a name plate referring to it as such, at least 99% of Finnish people would still refer to it as Joulupukki (the Finnish word for Santa Claus), because that's their name for the character and has been for longer than America has existed as a country in its current state. You will pretty much never change people's use of a word like that when they've already been using their own word for them for centuries. If the creation was an original, sure, they would probably respect the foreign name enough to at least try and pronounce it, but they're not going to stop using a name they've been using forever for the newer, foreign version. Especially so in the case of Herakles which is originally a Greek creation in the first place.
