it didn’t come with any keycaps at all and the keycaps i ordered didn’t come with some of the keys advertised. the listing said it had a 1U shift key yet i didn’t get one with the set. and they just feel cheap.

yeah like it’s tight on some switches and loose on others. feels like the gap and spacing between the plate and the board isn’t super uniform, i messed with it a lot before i got all the keys working. broke the pins on like 6 switches.

i wanted a maple wood case to match his office.
found a kit on amazon that looked good, paid $130 for it. the stabilizers are TRASH and the board is super picky with switches.
i used some old MX brown switches i had, not great on this thing.
next, keycaps. one of the biggest disappointments. no 1U shift key so i put “page up” there as a place holder. i had to use the right shift key on the left because it was the only one that fit, and the keycaps are so snug they pull my switches out almost every time which is super annoying.
i already built this thing twice and i’m gonna have to do it yet again.

and we evolved to develop an intelligence that is smarter and more efficient than any one person on the planet can be.
so now instead of hiring a team of people to build me a website, i have the ai build it for me.
i’m not saying we don’t need humans, i’m saying we’re making 50%+ of our labor entirely obsolete, and we need a plan on what to do next.

no, it’s not sentient.
it’s intelligent. i can ask it to code a website layout, write me a script for an episode of always sunny, and a research paper on salvadore dali, and have all three before i finish my coffee.

that was very well put.
it’s like when someone points out a mistake chatGPT made you’ve got a ton of people going “hah! knew it. it’s just a dumb chat bot” then immediately go on twitter and argue that hillary clinton was killed in guantanamo bay and replaced with a body double controlled by george soros.
chat gpt, at its current early early beta stage, is already more clever and intelligent than arguably any one human on the planet.

ugh yup. just after my 23rd birthday. i was just about to host my first big club event i spent months setting up. finding a venue, promoting, making flyers, booking DJs, then we got hit with Sandy and i had to cancel the whole thing.
gave up on the idea of being an event promoter immediately after. figured it was an omen.

i live in philadelphia. we are internationally known for destroying harmless robots. i don’t see this panning out by any scope of imagination.
first, cities are extremely densely populated and delivery is practically a daily thing for many residents. there would be more delivery robots than people on the streets to service demand.
second, EVERYONE is going to want to fuck with them. like, everyone.
it won’t work in suburban or rural areas either because of the distance from store to home.
i would’ve loved to sit in on the boardroom pitch for this pie in the sky idea.

if it were my own keyboard, sure. but i’m giving this to my very old school dad and i need to keep it as simple as possible. this was the only reasonably priced wood kit i could find.
i ordered another keycap set that’ll work with this. pretty perfect too, i got it super clearanced because it has a russian legend and that’s exactly what my dad needs. i actually accidentally found it today even though i specifically searched for that before. i was already preparing myself for my dad to cover it in stickers.
