A little late for work today because period decided to start right when I was about to leave and had to do a quick wardrobe change. How is this a win for mojo Monday? It didn't start 5 minutes later while I was biking to work, in which case I would have looked like I was involved in a crime scene and would have had to go right back home, lost even more time, and maybe lost some clothes. Small victory over uterus.

Also, that bike ride felt great.

I hope DC listens to our tree praises and tightens protections. It was hard enough when I had to deal with developers holding trees hostage or just not caring and cutting them down. Now I hear they're poisoning special and heritage trees? If the city doesn't protect our existing canopy we will become (edit: Nova).

Passed my engineering license exam last week, then had a great trip to NY over the weekend. Saw two Broadway shows, ate lots of delicious celiac-safe food, had dinner with some family, walked all over, used the more-efficient subway system, and finally saw the One World Trade Center. Last time I had been there it was still a big hole in the ground surrounded by fencing covered with missing person signs. Still a very moving experience. I'm glad I have the time and money now to do weekend trips like this, and it really just feels like an extension of home with how easy it is to get there and back.

So I also like the skyscrapers in Manhattan. It's a totally different feel from here. Sorry, I wasn't trying to make my post a DC vs NY, because I love them both for how different they are yet can feel so similar. It might be the walkability of both that make me feel comfortable going between the two. My husband and I talked about how if we weren't happily settled in DC with our friends, house, and garden we would consider moving there. But (speaking of trees) we want to see the trees we planted in our yard grow into maturity.

I also think that DC is a lot better about tree planting/preservation than most suburbs in the US, where they should have room for more. Instead they have seas of strip malls and nearly empty parking lots. Again, trying to break the DC vs NY narrative I inadvertently started.

Just came back from a great trip in NYC. Each time I return to DC I remark how much I love how many more trees there are here, and just how much greener it is here in general. NY has some amazing parks, but we have trees everywhere.

Nice bike ride to work today. Light traffic in all forms, everyone was polite, other cyclists remembered how to use their bells or voices when passing, wasn't biking into wind, and, gasp, didn't have to weave between cars blocking the box! Wish every biking day could be like this.

Got glutened by the office communal tea kettle yesterday (those rapid boil kettles) because [someone] decided to steep their I don't know what in it rather than their own mug. Fortunately my boss is very understanding and lets me work from home when I get glutened. But ugh, 2+ more weeks of body hell on top of whatever the hell else my body is overreacting to.

Thank you to the folks who share some positivity each week. I got to pet kittens this weekend. Other good stuff happened, but kittens are not a common experience for me. Yay.
