As much as I want to enjoy a train ride into NYC, I find its usually cheapest to just drive and park for the day somewhere. You need to pay per person for train/bus tickets but gas and parking is just charged once.

Reply to SFN format on CT birth certificates by BoredofGasoline
The color and any sort of formatting changes a lot so there isn't much to glean from online examples. My original birth certificate from the 80s was made on a typewriter! It looks like this.
Anyway, here are the official instructions for obtaining a birth certificate. You can call the Vital Records Office with any questions.

Use a site like TinEye to do a reverse search of the images -- if they show up elsewhere, it's probably a scam.

Those are two of the main drags through Simsbury so if you are sensitive to traffic noises, probably not the best bet for quietness. It's tough to move across the country! Sign a short lease and buy some really nice earplugs until you get get an actual feel for the area.

Lotto winnings count as income, you pay regular income tax on them. In most states your take home is about 2/3rds of the jackpot.

Reply to Be Honest With Me, How much has your electric bill been this last month? by KindaEgotistical
$215 averaged between the last two months, family of 3. Wood pellet stove mostly but electric heat in the bedrooms. I locked in awhile ago with a supplier at 8.99 cents/kwh until December 2024, really lucked out. Would've been an extra $130 (!!!) with Eversource's rate.

Earthlink offers 5G internet in Cheshire, not fiber. Looks like neither Frontier or Gonetspeed offer fiber there yet but Cox offers speeds up to 1 gbps, cable.

I use Big Y's pharmacy because it almost never has a line, compared to my local CVS which is always crazy busy.
I fortunately don't have any chronic conditions and only need the occasional round of antibiotics or steroids or whatever. Nothing that costs more than like $10 -- I don't need to worry about saving money with an online pharmacy.

Reply to comment by ZestyItalian2 in What are the richest towns in CT? Like with the nicest houses, cars, etc? by boxing1414
West Hartford doesn't really belong on this list in my opinion. It does have some rich residents but the per capita income for the town is $54k. Greenwhich is at $98k, Darien is at $116k, and so on. It's more upper middle class yuppies in West Hartford than the ultrarich types you'll find in the southwest of the state.

Eversource buys generated power and resells it to you. A few years ago Connecticut passed a law that allowed consumers to select their own power generation and pay that rate, instead of being stuck with whatever Eversource picks. The power generation company will tell Eversource that you are buying from them instead and then charge Eversource for the power -- which you see on your bill as the generation charge. It doesn't actually matter where the power comes from. Power generation companies just pump the power into the grid and then power distributors use it and pay them as needed.
