Seriously. The whole reason Vermont is special and is what it is today is because anyone with a brain left and went west after John Deere invented the steel plow, and there's never been much of a reason to come here since. You have to love it. But we've also avoided a lot of the worst of endless growth and boom and bust economic cycles. I'm afraid the future is bleak, and there's probably not much that can be done about it.

This happened back during the crazier days of the pandemic with beef. I remember Boyden farm ribeyes from the local coop being cheaper than feedlot ribeyes from shaws.

Some places won't if you don't have DOT tires, some places won't if you don't have blinkers, some places won't if you don't have a stock exhaust. It seems like it's all over the place. A lot of places don't really know the rules and are stricter than required because they don't want to lose their inspection license. I haven't had a bike inspected in a long time but with cars they have to take pictures with a special tablet and send them to the state, and if they fail you they notify the state so you can't just bring it somewhere else. It's a racket.

Is there still the vermont loophole anyways? I thought there was talk about closing it down? It seems to be getting harder here for bikes, I stopped bothering to inspect mine.

You will have a hard time finding even a run down older mobile home for under 100k in most of the state and you will both likely take a significant pay cut moving here. We have a fairly high cost of living, especially housing, and fairly low wages.

Turn the whole fucking thing off. Then maybe Vermonters would be able to afford to stay in VT. Funny as soon as every rich asshole in NY decides they can work from home but finds out they can't in VT we finally get around to upgrading our shitty internet. My consolidated dsl sucks but I'd gladly give up a couple megs a second and have my streaming video have to buffer occasionally if it means zoom reliably won't work out here.
