I bet all that’s because they’re trying to get redesignated a ‘baby friendly’ hospital. 🙄 So annoying. I use Danbury Hospital and the nurses - especially the overnight ones - were a godsend. Would come in just to help me swaddle, encouraged me to use the nursery to get a little sleep, etc.

Seymour and Woodbury have an antiques trail. Lots of shops.

I’m not sure when it opens, but Elephant’s Trunk is an awesome flea market for Sunday mornings. Should be open in May. Antiques and more. Not quite southern, but worth going north.

Book Barn is lovely if either of you are readers. That’s in Niantic.

My son just turned 4 in the greater Danbury area. Our party was at EverWonder Children’s Museum in Newtown. We also looked at Stew Leonard’s - they do pizza and cupcake parties where you make your own. Brookfield YMCA does pool parties, as does the Newtown Community Center.

In May, you can always head outside. There’s Muscoot Farm in Katonah and Silverman’s in Easton. Silverman’s has quite a lot - a big petting zoo, a little playground, a trolley ride on weekends, fruit picking if in season…

There’s a place up your way called Got Your Goat or something - goat parties! I considered if but March is a bit chilly for a farm party.

When schools attempt to restrict phones, there are inevitably parents who push back. “My child needs it to communicate with me. My kid needs it in case of emergency.”

Some schools won’t even confiscate phones because they don’t want to deal with the potential of the phone getting damaged and the parent suing.

I think we would need to see the data on that. In my experience, a vast majority are students with severe special needs, whether social/emotional, behavioral, etc. Documented disability manifestations. My district deals with students expelled for issues like fighting or drugs within our own system.

That is not uncommon at all.

Also, a lot of special education costs are increasing for districts which means cuts happen in other areas. More and more kids are needing special education services, including extreme ones like outplacement to alternative schools - which the parent district pays typically pays for in terms of tuition and transportation.

I’m on that sub, too. CT teachers have it better than many other states (ahem, South) but teaching isn’t without its issues.

Student apathy and lack of parental support strike me as two of the biggest issues I see daily. Also, we are understaffed and no one cares. Our community only wants to slash our budget, so we cannot add staff to accommodate our increasing enrollment.

The cell phones are an enormous issue in any school that doesn’t have a strict no phone policy. And again, we rarely see parental support on that front. Half the time it’s the parents texting during class. 😑

I’ve seen zero posts on this woman, so this seems out of left field. Is there reason to expect the article is not accurately reporting what happened…?

Pretty sure there’s a UConn sub somewhere. That might be more useful.

What month will you visit?

Without driving, you’re limited on how much of the coast you’ll really be able to see. Most of it is accessed by car and Ubering all over will get costly.

I would do a little New England tour. Maybe fly into Boston, then you can take the Amtrak to Mystic. Mystic is mildly touristy but not bad. It’s a very cute New England town on the water, whaling history, lots to do. Enough tourists around that you should be able to Uber without issue. Then from Mystic, head to New Haven or Stamford on Amtrak. You’ll find city vibes there, still coastal, with a nice nightlife. Then you could even end in NYC, taking the cheaper MetroNorth in. Spend a couple days and fly out of JFK.

Full disclosure - I have never personally used Amtrak but I do know these cities mentioned have Amtrak stations at least. Don’t know the schedules and how frequently they run.

I don’t know the full answer to that. I know that we do not pay into it. I did read somewhere that any union job doesn’t have to pay in if alternative programs are offered - I.e. A lot of people use it for maternity leave and individual districts already have provisions for maternity leave. I looked into it and the six weeks full pay that I get from my district (assuming I then take six unpaid) is ultimately going to get me more money than twelve weeks of partial pay. I don’t know how it applies to the injury though.
