I don't necessarily know the ownership structures but there are plenty of non-massive-chain coffee shops in Stamford.

  • Lorca on Bedford appears to be a single location and likely locally owned.
  • Winfield St Coffee in the Library is not family owned but there's only 9 locations, it's better than the Starbucks it took over the space from.
  • Turning Point has 2 locations in town and roasts its own coffee, and I believe is locally owned.
  • Humbled Coffee on Hope Street is almost definitely locally owned.
  • BonJo on Elm St is also a local roaster and I believe locally owned.

Granted only 2 of these have prime downtown locations but still.

Just a quick local tip, our state university mascot is a husky (UConn Huskies) and students/alumni are called "huskies" so you will want to clarify to people you are looking for an apartment that is husky-dog-friendly. Elsewhise people may think you're looking for a student-friendly apartment.

I'd also like to second Mint Mobile. I prepaid $380 for 12 months of unlimited data. Mint is an MVNO meaning it uses T-Mobile's network but you are second tier priority behind T-Mobile users, so speeds on Mint can drop if there are too many people in the area. I have never once experienced this, and have used Mint for 4 years.

I mean $32/mo (after taxes and fees) for unlimited data is a steal. I consistently get 200+ Mbps speeds.

I also buy my phones outright instead of financing. But it still works out to cheaper and more flexible than getting a 2 year contract with the likes of Verizon, Tmo, or ATT.
