Also, for a franchise that’s had a quick trigger firing coaches and seemingly going nowhere, they are trying to show that there will be more stability moving forward. Like even if his W-L record isn’t good right away, they aren’t going to give up on him in 2 years (because they can’t). If they can lock him down and draft a good QB makes it easier to recruit other coaches and players moving forward.

I like to think Hickey got involved in some bad things in his previous job, got shot and almost died in New Mexico, and now is rebuilding himself as a teacher at a junior college in Colorado
