Yup. I was psyched for Middlegame by Seanen McGuire...but when the author of a book tells her Twitter audience "If you've been assaulted you might want to wait to read this". ((Not the direct direct quote but damn* close to it)).
I took that at face value. Not ready to read it so it's on my TBR pile until further notice.

Reply to What subject matter is so ghastly / triggering that you won’t read a book that delves into it? by jenna_grows
Rape, child abuse (physical and emotional). I lived it. I don't need to live it again in my books. Add in eating disorders, too (I'm in recovery) unless it's a book my therapist suggested.

I lean on local indie authors (thank you comicon and regional pride!) and lean even more heavily on fantasy while taking the occasional, spectacular detour into different genres.
Those are usually found by neurodivergent rabbit hole research, not going to lie, but I find some really interesting stuff once my curiosity is engaged.

I will disagree with the others for two reasons. One, stealing people's work is just not cool and two, ebooks give the author more money than a hard copy does.

Reply to Greetings everyone! A lot of people say reading books is beneficial for you, though... by RaderH2O
Have you read Ray Bradbury? Isaac Asimov? Mary Shelley? Tolkien? Gaiman? Sanderson? C.S. Lewis? I can keep going.
There are tons of scifi and fantasy authors who do, in fact, make you think.
