Someone has been working on a cocktail bar called Red Lagoon on 2nd and Jackson, but looking from the outside progress seems to have stalled. Looks like they applied for their ABC license in Sept.

Jesús, why invest in the long term viability and safety of the most important system in a house when you can, what, leave off a few $2 pieces of hardware?
I agree with the other poster, AMA time for you. Or at least throw me a couple good tidbits about places like that

That's not a GLeaf thing, those things are everywhere.
Gleaf is def very expensive but unless one directly knows someone who grows and can trust they're getting what they're told they're getting, Gleaf is a safe, hassle free (once approved) way for them to get it.

I got some at an Indian one a couple years ago, organic at that. I don't remember exactly which one but I'd guess based on my usual haunts it was Laxmi or Royal Bazaar

Reply to Weekend parking? by cherrychapstick9090
What area? Generally anywhere that: doesn't have a sign saying no parking (like an alley or driveway, which actually don't need a sign for that to be true), isn't in front of a hydrant, doesn't have time restrictions because of a permit situation like some neighborhoods, isn't metered like you said, isn't handicapped assigned, and doesn't have city posted signs about towing like for upcoming road repairs, then you're good. That's not an exhaustive list but by and large there aren't really any "gotchas" in terms of parking.....the surrounding signs, and stuff like hydrants and driveways, will basically tell you everything you need to know

Reply to comment by batkave in Richmond saw notable drop in murders last year, but thefts from vehicles caused property crimes to soar by ThatChildNextDoor
I typed a whole comment touching on this and was like "why bother?" because telling people they shouldn't be as scared as they are (not that I said that, but it was one takeaway) is a great way to piss them off. People cling to fear, no matter how gentle you are about it.
But yeah, a takeaway is: remember this next time there is a panic over crime! There are ebbs and flows all the time and rarely are they a sign of long term trends, especially in the negative direction. It's always bad when it goes up, but not a per se reason to be alarmed. And it's usually drastically overreported.....if murders go up 20%, coverage is gonna go up approximately one billion %

If you're heading west in the Franklin St bike lane and want to go down Grace after crossing Belvidere, since the bike lane ends and Franklin is a one way eastward, it sucks. Just trying to go west from there in general is "fun". The Main St to Broad corridor on Belvidere brings out the crazy and two of these intersections are on the list.

Reply to Wait time at The National by PearlGirl12
It varies tremendously. I've noticed with more mainstream stuff the lines seem worse. People get there pretty early and more closely together and it creates a backup. Getting there a bit early for those is good. I don't agree with another comment that you need to get there before first opener though, never seem it be THAT bad. Hippie jam band shit, people roll up whenever and it's more staggered. Some acts prompt a much more invasive search protocol it seems. These are just general points, it really does vary.
I will say I've gone to the National on average once a month or more for almost 11 years and things move a lot faster than they used to. Rarely is the line as long as it used to get and the process is more efficient, even with the metal detectors. That may have even helped in some ways, as I rarely see pat downs anymore.

Heh, yeah, I'd want all the signatures in the world if I was the landlord. Though, I could see OP also not liking to be the only one on the lease....the other person might not feel much obligation to pay since they aren't formally on the hook for anything. I feel like them being on the lease makes it more likely they'll pay their half.

Even though I'm more into the classics and bitter stuff when making at home, the tiki themed cocktail menu at Jungle Room is my favorite one in Richmond. You can go early if you're not trying to hear the DJs later.

A lot of suburbs in the U.S. are going to be facing economic issues as sprawly infrastructure starts to get old, decline, and have less people per unit of area paying in. They'll never face the issues you mentioned with services systems being older than most people alive, but it's going to get interesting for them, especially as many run out of space to be able to keep the growth cycle going.

Even though it's not a totally black and white thing, you're not wrong. Heck, over the last several years I've mostly stopped saying hey to people I walk by in Jackson Ward, but 10 years ago most people said hey to me first. Now people ignore me and look creeped out or offended.
At younger 20s bars where people are getting pretty drunk, it's still sort of OK to talk to a rando, right? And maybe a bit moreso for older crowds? I mostly go to live music over bars, so talking to randos is hard anyway. But I def creeped out 1 of 2 girls at a show recently by asking them what song the band was covering.
