I wholeheartedly agree. I have no doubt these headphones are excellent, but I feel like these impressions need to be taken with a massive grain of salt because the WA33 is hugely impressive on its own plus tube amps tend to smooth things out and add color.

They’re solid for music depending on what you’re into. They excell in genres with many instruments like classical and jazz. I primarily listen to indie and hardcore though. The HD800S gets the job done but they aren’t as impactful as I’d like and can be a little too bright at times.
I haven’t tried watching a movie with the 800S but I’ve noticed the unnatural wideness with certain hip hop and r&b tracks.

HD800S. Everything sounds pretty good on them plus I do a ton of gaming.

Zeos and Josh exaggerate A TON.
But give the XS a solid chance before passing judgement. Use them exclusively for a week or so and then try the Grados.

That is one of the many reasons I just do not enjoy IEMs. They aren't for everyone, but they do seem to be increasing in popularity.
When I was in college, I would just suck it up and wear my Apple Earpods around campus. It would make me appreciate my home setup much more lol.

If you are willing to EQ, the LCD-X are a pretty sweet pair of cans. The tuning is a little weird even on the 2021 revision. I owned both the X and HD800S at the same time and they sort of have opposite qualities.
I will say that if someone put a gun to my head and made me choose, I’d pick the LCD-X over the HD800S.

Tastefully done.
I’ve been mad curious about the Empyrean and I almost bought a pair but I went with the Atrium instead. I’ve been wondering “what if” ever since.

The HD800S is not my cup of tea at all for metal. I was in between headphones at one point and had only the HD800S while I was waiting on a different pair to ship. The HD800S was so incredibly fatiguing for metal.
If you already have the XS, I’d probably just stretch and get a LCD-3.
As a sweaty FPS gamer, I will say that the HD800S is a bit overrated. The improvement over other headphones is not massive.
